SEVERAL MAJOR TRAFFIC PROJECTS TO GET OFF GROUND IN 2019

The Ministry of Transport will commence construction this year on major traffic projects, with three components of the Eastern North-South Expressway to get off the ground in the middle of the year.

The Cao Bo (Nam Dinh) – Mai Son (Ninh Binh) section is the first subproject, which is expected to be put up for bid in April 2019 to find a contractor. Work on the project is scheduled to begin between July 10 to 19, 2019.

The second project will be the Cam Lo-La Son section, with a length of 98.3 kilometers, running from Quang Tri Province to Thua Thien-Hue Province in the central region. The subproject is expected to cost VND7.7 trillion.

A technical design consultant has already been chosen for the Cam Lo-La Son section, which will begin construction during the second quarter of 2019.

When in place, the new expressway will connect Ho Chi Minh Road with Quang Tri Province, the La Son-Tuy Loan Expressway, which is nearing completion, and the operational Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway. In addition, the projected Cam Lo-La Son expressway will link key economic routes in central Vietnam from Quang Tri Province to Quang Ngai Province, National Highway 9, economic zones and Chan May and Tien Sa seaports.

My Thuan 2 Bridge was chosen as the third subproject to be built in 2019, connecting Tien Giang and Vinh Long provinces. Located 350 meters upstream from the existing My Thuan Bridge, My Thuan 2 will start from an intersection with Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway and end at National Highway 80, the starting point of My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway.

The My Thuan 2 Bridge project will likely begin in mid-2019, requiring an estimated VND5 trillion.

Besides the above-mentioned projects, the Ministry of Transport will start work on projects with fund sourced from the backup funding of VND15 trillion from the Government for the 2016-2020 period, such as renovation and repair of Quan Lo-Phung Hiep Road, and upgrade of the Cao Lanh-Hong Ngu section of National Highway 30, along with other repair work.
