SPEAKERS' INFORMATION

Thomas Tobin joined Vietcombank in Oct 2017 and is currently Head of the Retail Banking Group. He has nearly 30 years of experience working in senior management positions of leading international companies with expertise in electronic and mobile payment, retail and commercial banking.

Preceding his responsibilities at Vietcombank, Mr. Tobin worked for Visa Inc. managing business in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Mongolia and Korea markets. He was responsible for business results and the growth of business operations supporting Visa customers including banks, merchants, consumers and other partners. Especially, Mr. Tobin was instrumental in deploying mobile payments in Hong Kong and electronic payments, mobile payments and tokenization implementation in Taiwan and Korea.

From 2007 - 2011, Mr. Tobin served as CEO and President of HSBC in charge of managing the business units in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. During that time, he also supported HSBC’s strategic investments in Techcombank (20%), Bao Viet Insurance (18%) and led HSBC to become the leading foreign bank in Vietnam - The first 100% foreign owned bank, locally incorporated in Vietnam.

He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from McMaster University, Canada and is a graduate of The Wharton School’s Advanced Management Program.

 



Joined VietUnion Corporation from the first days, Tien has led different key projects, such as Fraud Detection System, Payoo e-Wallet and payment gateway, bill payment platform, NFC smartcard payment in public transportation, mobile POS (mPOS), location-based mobile application for transportation and management, and tuition fee payment platform.

With a strong technical and financial background, Tien has developed the Payoo e-Wallet to become a One-Stop Payment Platform, which offers both online and at-the-store payment services for bill payment, ticketing, insurance, tuition fee, prepaid mobile phone/game cards, and e-commerce. Currently, the Payoo platform processes over 4 billion USD annually with over 300 types of bills, connecting directly over 40 banks, and having over 14,000 point-of-sales across the country.
Graduated with a PhD in Computer Science in UK in 2006, Tien is interested in solving real-world problems with large scale of data processing, optimization and "machine understanding”.

 



Manisha is the CFO of momo, Vietnam’s leading e-wallet company. As part of the senior management team, her responsibilities include the finance, human resources, capital raising and investor relations. Over the past 19 years she worked in corporates or advised clients in over 25 countries across the telecom, media, technology, financial services and automobile sectors. She has worked at JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, TVS & Sons, Vodafone, and the World Bank.

Manisha was born in Pittsburgh, USA and grew up in Mumbai, India. She completed her undergraduate studies at Colgate University and received an MBA from Harvard Business School.




Yee Chung is a Senior Partner of the Vietnam offices of Baker McKenzie. He has been based in Vietnam for over 20 years, managing and dealing with a wide range of investment projects and M&A deals, and advising and assisting on corporate, commercial and regulatory compliance matters.

Yee Chung leads the M&A, TMT, and pharmaceutical and healthcare practices in Vietnam.
This includes foreign direct investment, market access and licensing, private and public M&A, commercial contracts, competition and anti-corruption compliance, data use and privacy, over a diverse range of industries, including e-commerce and digital, consumer products, food & beverage, cosmetics, healthcare, manufacturing, property, and aviation.
