KIEN GIANG BOOSTS EXPORTS
[19-07-2016] The southern province of Kien Giang strives to earn US$260 million from exports in the last five months of 2016 to fulfill its yearly target of US$440 million. Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Vu Hong directed relevant agencies to enact measures to boost exports, improve the business environment and competitiveness, and support businesses, especially temporarily inactive ones.
WILL VIETNAM RESTRUCTURE THE CENTRAL BANK?
[18-07-2016] For the last ten years, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has said it would restructure its operations. The government has instructed SBV to continue the plan on restructuring the banking system in 2016-2020. But the restructuring has not been implemented, though SBV once drew up a plan years ago.

Last week, a delegation of 30 European pharmaceutical firms in the environment and water sectors paid a working visit to Ho Chi Minh City to research the market and explore opportunities.
EXPORT TURNOVER FETCHES US$162.57 BILLION IN H1
[18-07-2016] As of late June, total trade turnover valued US$162.57 billion, up 2.4% or US$3.76 billion against the same period last year, according to the Viet Nam Customs Department. In the first half, Viet Nam ran a trade surplus of nearly US$1.7 billion.
LARGE TEXTILE PRODUCTION ZONES PROPOSED
[18-07-2016] The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has proposed the development of large textile and garment industrial zones (IZs) to attract investment in dyeing, and fabric and yarn production. The 500ha to 1,000ha zones would attract local and foreign investment for high-end products.
CAI MEP-THI VAI PORT IMPROVEMENT
[13-07-2016] Spurred by numerous complaints of underdeveloped infrastructure, logistics service shortcomings and fierce competition made by foreign joint venture ports in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the Ministry of Transport is now moving forward measures to increase its operational efficiency.
