CẦN THƠ SEEKS INDUSTRIAL PARK INVESTORS

he Mekong Delta City of Cần Thơ’s Trade and Investment Promotion Centre plans to promote investment in the Việt Nam – Japan Industrial Park this year, according to Nguyễn Khánh Tùng, director of the centre.

Agencies in Cần Thơ City will focus on four major projects: a logistics centre; Việt Nam – Japan Industrial Park; an information centre; and Cần Thơ Convention Centre, Tùng said at an annual conference of the Cần Thơ’s Trade and Investment Promotion Centre on Tuesday.

Construction of the Việt Nam – Japan Industrial Park project is scheduled to begin in April, he said.

A series of events to promote business and investments from Japanese companies will be held in Cần Thơ in 2018.

Cần Thơ will also organise a meeting with Japanese investors in Hà Nội and cultural and commercial promotion events in Cần Thơ later this year, he said.

This year, Cần Thơ will promote trade and investments from other countries including South Korea.

The efforts will include a campaign to attract investments from South Korean companies in Cần Thơ’s Korea – Việt Nam Incubator Park (KVIP), according to Cần Thơ’s Trade and Investment Promotion Centre.

The city will also seek investors in the hi-tech agricultural industry.

The city this year will also host other events at the national level, including the 12th traditional southern cake festival (with 200 kiosks); the high-quality Vietnamese goods fair (with 400 kiosks); a VietBuild Cần Thơ for construction – building materials, properties and inner decoration (with 450 booths); and the Việt Nam international agricultural expo (with 350 kiosks).

Nguyễn Kim Ngọc, head of the Trade Promotion Division at the promotion centre, said last year the centre collaborated with other agencies to promote trade and investment in major markets such as Japan and South Korea.

The promotion campaigns helped Cần Thơ attain sales turnover of over US$1.76 billion, 5.9 per cent higher than targets set for 2017, and an increase of 13.9 per cent compared with 2016.

In 2017, the promotion centre also hosted 10 events and fairs, with 3,000 kiosks displaying goods and products from international and local companies, attaining total sales turnover of VNĐ700 billion.

Around 2,000 agreements and contracts were signed during these events, according to figures released by the Cần Thơ’s Trade and Investment Promotion Centre.

ĐÀ NẴNG GREEN-LIGHTS US$105 MILLION THAI DEVELOPMENT DEAL

The central city has approved an investment proposal by Thailand’s WHA Group to develop infrastructure for the 400ha WHA Đà Nẵng Industrial Park project on two communes of Thăng Bình and Đồng Dương, with an investment of more than VNĐ2.7 trillion (US$105 million). The city said it approved WHA Industrial Development International's status as an investor in the project, which is expected to take place between 2027 and 2034.

MOBILE PHONE EXPORTS RISE 20% TO $51.8 BILLION IN FIRST NINE MONTHS

Exports of mobile phones and components rose 20 per cent year-on-year to nearly US$51.8 billion in the first nine months of 2026, with China, the US and Republic of Korea accounting for more than half of the total.
