HCMC – Vietnam’s forest coverage reached 42.03% in 2025, with more than 14.9 million hectares of forest recorded nationwide, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reported.
• Jan-Feb agro-forestry-fishery exports put at US$11 billion
• Forest environmental services expected to generate VND3.3 trillion in 2025
Data released on April 1 by the Forestry and Forest Protection Department showed natural forests accounted for over 10 million hectares, while replanted forests covered more than 4.9 million hectares.
About 13.92 million hectares met the criteria for calculating forest coverage, including 10.08 million hectares of natural forest and 3.85 million hectares of replanted forest.
Following the announcement, the ministry directed the department to build and manage a national database to monitor forest changes in line with regulations and the forestry information system.
Local authorities were instructed to use the data to track forest developments and support socio-economic planning, while ensuring compliance with the Forestry Law.
Provinces with declines in natural forest area in 2025 must review the causes and address accountability where necessary.
Authorities that fail to publish or delay forest status data will be held accountable under current regulations.
