VN LOOKS TO WELCOME 18 MILLION FOREIGN TOURISTS IN 2019
Viet Nam targets to cater for 103 million guests, including 18 million international guests in 2019, said Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien. Minister Thien made the announcement later last week at a conference to review operation of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism’s performance in 2018 and sketch out its plans for 2019.
Thien asked the sector to focus on tourism promotion in major markets, thus luring more travelers from these markets and ensuring the growth in the number of visitors.
In 2018, the Vietnamese tourism sector enjoyed impressive results with a record 15.6 million international tourists and 80 million domestic travelers. Total revenue hit VND 620 trillion (around US$ 26.55 billion).
Earlier, the Political Bureau issued Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW on January 1, 2017 on development of tourism into a spearhead industry as a boost for development of other industries.
The document takes stock of encouraging achievements of the tourism industry over the past 15 years, with foreign tourist arrivals annually growing at over 10 percent and domestic arrivals at nearly 12%.
