HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh today, April 19, chaired the groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies of 80 key national projects across the country to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation on April 30.
The ceremonies were held in a hybrid format, with the main event taking place at Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC and connected virtually to other sites nationwide.
Of the 80 projects, which cost a combined VND445 trillion, there are 40 infrastructure projects, 12 industrial and civil construction projects, 12 education-related projects, and nine cultural and social development projects.
In HCMC, six major projects were inaugurated or got off the ground. These include the completion of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat and its connecting road to Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets; the inauguration of the Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital; and the groundbreaking of the Can Gio sea land reclamation area for tourism and urban development and the infrastructure relocation and demining component of Ring Road 2.
In his remarks at the Terminal 3 inauguration ceremony, PM Chinh stressed the strategic significance of these projects in driving Vietnam’s economic growth, ensuring national security, and promoting international integration.
Several new projects are also expected to start construction in the coming months, such as the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong railway, the Hanoi – Vientiane expressway, and key expressways linking Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Gia Nghia (Dak Nong), and Chon Thanh (Binh Phuoc).
PM Chinh urged local authorities and ministries to ensure that newly inaugurated projects are quickly brought into operation to maximize investment effectiveness. He also called for greater attention to the welfare of residents affected by land acquisition, particularly those who have relocated or made sacrifices for national projects.
Contractors and investors were directed to begin construction immediately on newly launched projects, with an emphasis on staying ahead of schedule, maintaining quality and preventing cost overruns.
Local governments have been tasked with resolving bottlenecks in site clearance and material sourcing to facilitate smooth project implementation.
