ACCELERATING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WITH PIONEERING TELECOM INFRASTRUCTURE
Vietnam’s telecommunications sector will continue to play a key role in driving the digital economy, especially as technologies like AI, 5G, cloud computing and quantum computing become essential components of national development strategies. At the same time, building modern, green-certified data centers is among the top priorities.
INFRASTRUCTURE UNDERTAKINGS UNLOCKED VIA PRIVATE FUNDING
Last week, THACO Group expressed its desire to invest in the North-South high-speed railway. The company will contribute 20 per cent of the total capital, nearly $12.27 billion, through equity and legally mobilised domestic capital. The remaining amount, around $50 billion, will be borrowed from domestic and foreign credit institutions that the government guarantee and support all loan interest for 30 years, secured by assets formed from the project.
AI BECOMES LOGISTICS GAME-CHANGER
At a seminar on sustainable development of logistics in the 4.0 era in Hanoi at the end of April, organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Vu Khac Anh, director of cross-border e-commerce company Pervasel, said that his business currently processes around one million orders in the US market. “With a global operational scale, technology is indispensable in all aspects of management. From human resource management, advertising, logistics, to customer service, everything must be digitised,” explained Anh.
IMPORT-EXPORT BUDGET REVENUE HITS VNĐ182.52 TRILLION
The total budget revenue from import-export activities in the first five months of 2025 reached nearly VNĐ182.52 trillion (over US$7 billion), equivalent to 44.4 per cent of the annual estimate and up 9.2 per cent over the same period last year, according to newly released statistics from the General Department of Customs.
BORDER TRADE SURGES AS AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS HIT PEAK HARVEST SEASON
The number of trucks arriving at border gate areas across the province has surged, ccording to the Đồng Đăng - Lạng Sơn Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board, in recent days. Over the past week, 12,857 vehicles carrying import and export goods cleared customs through Lạng Sơn's border gates, with no congestion reported. Of these, 3,681 were for export, an increase of 3.7 per cent compared to the previous week.
GOVERNMENT PROMOTES PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT IN RAILWAY PROJECTS
The Vietnamese Government is seeking to attract more private investment in railway infrastructure through new provisions in the draft of the amended Railway Law. The proposed changes were presented to the National Assembly on May 27 during its 9th sitting, aiming to expand funding mechanisms and boost public-private partnerships in the sector, reported the Government news site.
MARITIME TRANSPORT MAINTAINS STRONG GROWTH
The nation's maritime and inland waterway transport sectors have continued to demonstrate robust growth during the first four months of 2025, signalling a steady recovery in trade and logistics activities after a period of economic uncertainty. According to the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration (VIMAWA), under the Ministry of Construction, total cargo via ports reached 370.5 million tonnes, up 11 per cent compared to the same period last year.
VN SPEEDS UP 5G INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Vietnamese telecom service operators are accelerating the development of 5G infrastructure, part of the effort to achieve the goal of nationwide 5G coverage by 2030. Statistics of the Ministry of Science and Technology showed that a total of 11,591 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) have been installed as of early May, covering around 26 per cent of the population.
