HCMC – Vietnam’s tourism sector has set an ambitious target to welcome 45-50 million international visitors by 2030, contributing 14% to the nation’s GDP and generating 12 million jobs.

The target is highlighted in the newly adjusted Vietnam National Tourism System Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision toward 2045 released by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

By 2030, 100% of coastal tourism zones, lodging facilities, and service providers must transition to a zero-single-use-plastic model. This shift toward a circular economy is integrated with green growth strategies to maximize tourism’s contribution to global sustainable development goals.

To achieve such targets, the plan identifies key growth engines and regional hubs. Danang is designated as the primary catalyst for the central region, while HCMC will serve as the core driver for the southern region, including the Mekong Delta.

Development will be concentrated along North-South and East-West corridors, connecting major urban centers like Hanoi, Haiphong, and Can Tho with specialized tourism hubs such as Hoi An, Hue and Phu Quoc. These areas are slated to become centers for high-quality products, cultural industries and the night-time economy.
