VN RUNS US$1.01 BLN TRADE DEFICIT

As of mid-May, Viet Nam ran a trade deficit of US$ 1.01 billion, the General Department of Customs reported.  In the first half of May, total trade turnover hit US$21.24 billion, including exports of US$9.69 billion and imports of US$11.54 billion.

The export turnover of US$9.69 billion reflected a drop of 9.5% from the second half of April. The FDI sector exported US$6.5 billion of goods.

As of May 15, total export turnover reached US$ 88.9 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 6.7%. The biggest hard currency earners included telephones and spare parts with US$1.7 billion; computers and electronic devices with US$1.24 billion; garments and textiles with US$1.17 billion; footwear with US$781 million; machines, equipment and spare parts with US$646 million.
