AGRICULTURAL TRADE WORTH $57 BILLION IN FIRST HALF OF 2025
Vietnam’s agricultural sector continues to show strong momentum, with total trade in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries products (AFFP) reaching an estimated $57 billion in the first half of 2025, driven by robust export growth and rising global demand.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, AFFP exports were valued at $33.5 billion, up 14.3 per cent, and imports at $23.5 billion, up 12.8 per cent, for the period.
Tran Gia Long, deputy director of the Planning and Finance Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said, "The global economy in the first half of this year has experienced many fluctuations. However, our country’s agricultural production has remained stable and achieved decent growth."

The export turnover of AFFP in June alone is estimated at $5.9 billion, a 5.3 per cent increase compared to last year, bringing the total export turnover for the first six months of the year to $33.8 billion.
Several key agricultural products have shown strong growth, including tea, coffee, cassava, pepper, cashew nuts, livestock products, seafood, and wood and wood products.
Meanwhile, two products that have seen a decline in export value are rice, which hit $2.6 billion, a decrease of 9.8 per cent on-year, and fruits and vegetables, which brought in $2.7 billion, a decrease of 17.1 per cent.
By region, Asia remains the largest export market for Vietnam's AFFP. Compared to the same period last year, export value to the Asian market increased by 2.3 per cent, and to the Americas by 18.7 per cent.
Among individual markets, the United States, China and Japan are the top three export destinations for Vietnam’s AFFP. In the first half of 2025, exports to the US rose by 16 per cent, exports to China declined by 0.7 per cent, and exports to Japan surged by 25 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.
Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said, "There has been a clear shift in the structure of export markets. In 2025, the US market has grown significantly compared to previous years, surpassing China and creating a balance between the US and Chinese markets."
Alongside the increase in exports, imports have also risen. The import value of AFFP in June is estimated at $4.21 billion, up 11 per cent on-year, bringing the total import value for the first six months to $24 billion, a 15 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
By region, Vietnam imports the majority of its AFFP from Asia and the Americas, accounting for 31 per cent and 24.7 per cent of the market share respectively. Compared to the same period last year, imports from Asia rose by 21.8 per cent and from the Americas by 11 per cent.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has stated that it will continue to maintain exports, preserve and stabilize traditional markets, and explore potential markets to achieve the 2025 export target of $65 billion.
